Still in Spanish Basque Country , this third day (Monday April 25th) was a continuation of the descent from the Pyrenees. A much “gentler” terrain overall, however the last 2.5 KM out of the days 25.5 KM was a very dangerous, rocky and muddy sharp drop into the town of Zubiri.
Some stats:
Day 3:
Distance: 25.5 KM Steps: 36,981 Ascent: 250M
Todate (3 days):
Distance: 50.2 KM Steps: 60,781 Ascent: 1240M
Today I walked about 80% of the time alone. One of the people I walked with was Mike, a nice man from Hawaii who runs tourist guided tours on the Big Island.
I checked in to stay the night at a private “Albergue” Hostel. It was run by Sara who was a great host. Had a communal dinner with all the other guests. Three ladies from London England (the 3 of them and I in the same room, there were 3 bunk beds), a couple from Hawaii, two ladies from Nevada. Very nice conversation. All English speakers so easy. The food was great, all home made local dishes. The facilities were modern, extremely clean and very functional including a big area for a set of cloth lines outside, so had a chance to dry some of my washed cloths. The weather was very comfortable around 20C.
