Camino Statistics

Thought I share some statistics about the Camino that were just released for the 2021 calendar year. There are multiple routes, the most popular is the Camino Frances, which is the one I will walking. A Compostela is the document that is given to anyone completing at least the last 100KM at the Santiago Cathedral.

- Total 178,912 Compostelas. Ranged from 3 in Feb to 43675 in August.
- 90128 Men; 88783 Women; 1 unknown
- Of the above, 167,730 by foot; 10781 by bicycle; 199 on horseback;37 in wheelchair.
- Spaniards 122,127 68.3%; 31.7% Foreigners (COVID Year!)
- Nationalities present besides Spaniards: Top 5: Portugal 9410; Italy 7817; Germany 6575; US 5668 andFrance 4478; Canada with 558 was 20th.
- Most travel routes: Camino Frances 98090; Portugese Central 34247; English 10980; Primitive 10143; North 9593 etc.

Will see how 2022 plays out. The graph shows the previous years, so you can see that 2019 the volume was 330K, so 2022 being a Holy Year it means that it could be a huge year depending on COVID.

The busiest months are June/July/August. I am going from April 23-June 2nd.
